Feedback (2023)
Feedback is a solo performance about documentation and specters. Through the use of delayed video feedback, a ghostly shadow of Glenn’s figure trails behind him as he dances. The dance is juxtaposed with a rendition of a Japanese Buddhist song, which is in itself a form of archive. Some Japanese Buddhist denominations notably still practice mantras and sutras in Sanskrit, with the idea being that they are executed in the same way as monks in India over a thousand years ago. Similarly, Japanese monks perform sutras and songs in an older vernacular of Japanese that few people understand in the 21st century. In Feedback, Glenn begins by reciting a Japanese Buddhist song, which is then instantly played back as he begins to dance. The image of the dance then accumulates as a specter through delayed feedback.
Feedback was performed as part of the Bronx Council on the Art’s Community Engagement Grant award ceremony on May 9. 2023.
